Eggs actually contain many different proteins that can lead to an allergic reaction. However, kids with an allergy typically react mostly to the ingestion of egg whites due to the fact that egg whites contain more allergens than egg yolks. Regardless, if younger than 7 years old, your child should avoid eggs in general due to the high anaphylactic/severe reaction (unless otherwise advised or challenged by your child’s physician).

It’s that time of year! 🎃

Pumpkin is a great source of vitamin A, vitamin C, B vitamins, potassium, antioxidants, fiber, and monounsaturated fats! We also used cassava flour, or “yuca” flour, which is another root veggie so it’s nut-free! 😉⁠

Tis the season, so we thought we’d share this delicious chocolate chip pumpkin muffin recipe that is also gluten- free and nut- free!

Cassava Flour Chocolate Chip Gluten- Free and Nut- Free Pumpkin Muffins⁠
⁠
Ingredients:⁠
2 cups cassava flour⁠
2 tsp baking powder⁠
1 tsp baking soda⁠
2 tsp cinnamon⁠
1 tsp ground nutmeg⁠
½ tsp ground ginger⁠
½ tsp sea salt⁠
3 eggs whisked⁠
¼ cup pure maple syrup⁠
¼ cup vegetable oil⁠
1 tsp vanilla⁠
1 Tbsp honey⁠
1 can pumpkin puree⁠
½ cup chocolate chips (we used Lily’s milk chocolate due to their lower sugar and higher fiber content, however use any that you would like)⁠
*to increase fiber add ¼ cup ground flax seeds

Did you know that it often takes up to 15 exposures for children around 3- 5 years old to accept a new food? 🤓⁠

Picky eating is extremely common. Children actually have more taste buds than adults, making them sensitive to the bitter compounds found in certain foods such as vegetables. Not only does taste have a large impact on a child’s level of food acceptance, but their sensory experience with food textures and overall appetite also play significant roles in their level of picky eating. ⁠
⁠
Offering new foods with their current favorites is something we like to recommend. Also, leading by example is a great way to take the fear out of trying new foods- if your child sees you eating it, it peaks their curiosity! Licking, tasting, or even touching the new food is all part of the fun for your child too. Remember, your job as a parent is to offer healthy options and keep mealtime fun, your child’s job is to be in charge of what he or she actually eats! 💪🏻😉💜⁠
